Here’s How to Stay Well
Flu is circulating widely at the moment, and many people are experiencing typical winter flu symptoms such as fever, coughs, sore throat, headaches, muscle aches and extreme tiredness.
While flu can be unpleasant, most people will recover fully with rest and self-care. There are also simple steps you can take to reduce your risk and protect those around you.
How to help prevent flu
- Wash your hands regularly with soap and water, especially after being out and about
- Use tissues for coughs and sneezes and dispose of them promptly
- Avoid close contact with others if you’re feeling unwell
- Keep indoor spaces well ventilated where possible
- Stay up to date with your flu vaccination
If you develop flu symptoms
Most people can manage flu at home. We recommend:
- Resting and allowing your body time to recover
- Drinking plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration
- Taking paracetamol or ibuprofen to reduce fever and aches where recommended
When to seek medical advice
You should contact your Linbury doctor to seek medical advice if:
- Symptoms are not improving after a few days or are getting worse
- You have difficulty breathing, chest pain, or persistent high fever
- You are pregnant, over 65, or have a long-term health condition and feel particularly unwell
